Nebraska and Wisconsin will play for Freedom (Trophy)

First place in the Big Ten West Division is on the line this week when Nebraska heads to Wisconsin, but now there is so much more up for grabs as well. The Heisman Trophy showcase between two of the Big Ten’s top running backs, Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah and Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, should be a good one too, but now there is some additional hardware to make room for in the winning school’s trophy case.

Today the two schools unveiled the newest Big Ten rivalry game trophy, the Freedom Trophy.

Trophy games are awesome, and the Big Ten has plenty of them. This is Nebraska’s second trophy game with a new Big Ten rival. The Huskers play for the Heroes Trophy with Iowa, which was introduced in Nebraska’s first season in the Big Ten in 2011. Iowa won the trophy last season. For Wisconsin, this makes three trophy games. The Badgers also play for Paul Bunyan’s Axe against Minnesota and the Heartland Trophy with Iowa.
