College GameDay headed to Harvard-Yale for the first time

In a bit of serendipitous timing, Harvard and Yale head into one of the biggest The Game meetings in its 131-year history on the same day the FBS schedule has its worst offering of the 2014 season. This means it’s time to buckle up Cambridge, Mass., because college football’s preeminent hype machine is comin’ to your cit-tay.

Harvard-Yale beat out the 150th meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette and the 82nd Battle for the Victory Bell between No. 24 USC and No. 11 UCLA. However, those two games don’t match the relative importance of The Game. Harvard is in first place in the Ivy League at 6-0 and 9-0 overall, while Yale (winners over Army earlier this season) are fighting for a share of the league crown at 5-1 inside the conference and 8-1 overall; Lehigh and Lafayette are just 7-13 combined, while the Trojans and Bruins are currently on the outside looking in of the College Football Playoff picture.

Saturday will mark Harvard’s second GameDay appearance; the Crimson participated in the show’s first FCS broadcast back on Nov. 16, 2002 when it visited Penn.

“We are very honored and excited about ESPN CollegeGameDay coming to Harvard Stadium for The Game. It will make The Game even bigger and even more fun,” Harvard coach Tim Murphy told the Boston Globe.

Let’s go live to RedditCFB for their reaction.

The game will be shown on NBC Sports Network at 12:30 p.m. ET.
