Former Texas Tech DC Matt Wallerstedt fires back at his old employer

Earlier today, Texas Tech defensive coordinator Mike Smith dropped some serious allegations against his former co-worker Matt Wallerstedt, stating that the former Red Raiders defensive coordinator has clued Tech opponents into their defensive signals.

“They have been passed around. … I know other coaches have called and our signals have been passed around the whole time,” Smith told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “All I know is karma’s a bad deal.

“I don’t want to get into what’s going on with all that, but it’s not right and, to me, it’s not fair to the kids. So if that’s how that person wants to handle business, they can handle business that way. I sure hope I don’t run into him anytime soon.”

Wallerstedt is now a defensive assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette, but fired a shot toward Lubbock through College Station-based attorney Gaines West (via the Dallas Morning News).

Wallerstedt statement

Now that lawyers have gotten involved into this spat, that would figure to be that.

Using a lawyer to release a statement denying sign-stealing is called saber-rattling. Doubt we hear anything more on this from Tech.
