Video of UAB players responding to shutdown to school president is gut-wrenching

UAB made the decision to shut down its football program on Tuesday after the university’s leadership determined it was too costly to continue funding the program. UAB President Ray Watts addressed the football players in person to deliver the news and address concerns of the football players.

As expected, emotions ran high for the team, knowing their football program was being shut down.

If you want to get an idea of how much the UAB program means to the players on the team, this sobering video will provide quite a unique perspective. Some of the language is strong at times, but the emotion is raw and honest.

You cannot help but feel awful for the players involved in this situation, especially after watching that video. Here’s hoping for the absolute best for all involved, because this is just a terrible situation brought on by poor leadership or planning beyond the control of the football players and staff.
