Report: Chow to remain Hawaii’s head coach, AD will resign

Heading into the 2014 spinning of the coaching carousel, conventional wisdom had Hawaii’s athletic director firing head coach Norm Chow. Instead, it’s the former who has found himself without a job.

While nothing is official quite yet, the Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that Chow will be retained as the Rainbow Warriors’ coach. Additionally, Chow’s boss, athletic director Ben Jay, will resign.

The developments are expected to be announced at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

While the Rainbow Warriors went just 4-9 this season, that’s a marked improvement from the 1-11 2013 campaign. Overall in Chow’s three years, Hawaii has gone 8-29 overall and 4-20 in conference play.

Jay’s most dubious claim to fame in overseeing UH athletics was acknowledging in August that "[t]here’s a very real possibility of football going away” at the university. He later backtracked on those comments.
