Orange’s Durell Eskridge takes early leap into NFL draft pool

The calendar has yet to flip from 2014 to 2015, and Syracuse’s experience and talent in the defensive secondary has already taken a hit for next season.

On his Instagram account Tuesday, Durell Eskridge announced that he will be foregoing his final season of eligibility and will make himself available for the 2015 NFL draft. In the posting, the free safety thanked all of those who have supported him during his four years with the Orange.

“To all my family, friends, mentors & most importantly My die hard Syracuse fans, I decided to forgo my senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft. It has been a pleasure playing in the Dome these last 3 years and it has been amazing being apart of the Orange family for the past 4 years. I am grateful to be apart of a family (Syracuse) that has supported me through the good and bad times and I know you guys have my best interest. Again, I thank you all for being supportive and being family to me. Go Orange!! #Love”

Eskridge started 25 games during his career with the ‘Cuse. He led the team in tackles and interceptions in 2013, and was named third-team All-ACC after that season.

As a reminder, the deadline for draft-eligible players to file their paperwork with the NFL for early entry is Jan. 15.
