Video: Melvin Gordon tells Dan Patrick he’s turning pro

And, in other news, water’s wet and the sky’s blue.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon confirmed on The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday that he will be leaving school early and making himself available for the NFL draft next year. Last season, Gordon opted against early entry; this season, that won’t be the case.

And, again, that’s been expected.

Gordon set a Big Ten record for rushing yards in a single season with 2,336. He broke the FBS single-game rushing record with a 408- yard performance in Week 12, a mark that lasted exactly seven days before Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine broke it with 427 yards. The past two seasons, Gordon ran for 3,945 yards and was responsible for 41 touchdowns (38 rushing, three receiving).

Prior to making his decision last season, Gordon was viewed as a second-round player. Whether he can buck the recent NFL trend and make his way into the first round of the draft remains to be seen.
