LSU head coach Les Miles has already made it clear he fully expects to open a quarterback competition between Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris. But could there be one more ingredient in the quarterback competition? Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has reportedly reached out to LSU about a possible transfer.
The Times-Picayune reports Golson initiated the contact with the Tigers, doing so just after Notre Dame defeated LSU in the Music City Bowl. Perhaps Golson took note of the instability under center and evaluated the situation in South Bend now trending in favor of Malik Zaire with the Irish in 2015. Golson struggled down the stretch of the 2014 season for the Irish, and head coach Brian Kelly started to give Zaire more of a chance to take the job, which he did for the most part in the bowl victory against the Tigers.
If Golson does transfer from Notre Dame to LSU (or anywhere else for that matter), he will be scheduled to be eligible to play right away in 2015. Golson is expected to graduate from Notre Dame this spring, which would mean he can play anywhere in the fall, although a move to LSU would require an extra step in the process compared to a normal graduated player transfer. Because Golson was previously ruled academically ineligible at Notre Dame (costing him the 2013 season), LSU would need to have a waiver approved by the SEC to allow for the transfer to be completed.
Golson will have one final year of eligibility.
