REPORT: UConn’s Bob Diaco dismisses O-line coach, plans to be more physical

UConn head coach Bob Diaco has a plan, and he’s sticking to it.

Apparently, offensive line coach Mike Foley wasn’t a part of that plan. The Hartford Courant‘s Desmond Conner reported Foley will be not be retained after nine seasons with the program.

“Like every player is being evaluated every play every day, it’s the same with our coaches ... and the people involved will be held accountable to it and I’m going to do the necessary piece to get it right and I have a plan,” Diaco told Conner. “I have a damn good plan. I’m just in the process of it. ... I’m going to get the offense right, period. There hasn’t been a day spent not working toward that.”

Diaco wants to be more physical on offense, particularly in the trenches. The Huskies head coach plans to build a power running scheme with an emphasis on bigger blockers and more physical running backs.

“That’s how I want to play, that’s how we’re going to play,” Diaco said. “I’ve never stopped that development process ... and our model never changed and our recruiting model never changed, so we continued to grow toward that.”

Whoever steps in as the new offensive line coach has an uphill battle to achieve Diaco’s goals. The Huskies finished 116th in rushing offense during the head coach’s first year with the program.
