Dan Patrick: NCAA should give Joe Paterno’s victories back

Somewhat lost in the buzz surrounding the College Football Playoff championship game Monday night was news the NCAA, Pennsylvania state officials and Penn State could be negotiating possible revisions to the sanctions levied against the university and the football program. One of the more notable, yet perhaps least meaningful, of the sanction terms was the vacating of 112 wins by the university, 111 of which belonged to former head coach Joe Paterno.

Dan Patrick, on his national radio show simulcast on NBC Sports Network, suggested the NCAA should hand back the victories stripped from Paterno.

“What did Joe know? When did he know it? Could he have done more? We can argue that,” Patrick said. “Not the victories.”

“Joe Paterno was still a great man to a great program, made it a great program,” Patrick continued. “To take away the victories, I was embarrassed for the NCAA with that... Give the victories back to his family.”
