BYU’s Brayden Kearsley transferring to Oregon State

BYU’s offensive line loss will, as it turns out, be Oregon State’s future gain.

While the school has yet to confirm it, Brayden Kearsley has announced via the wonders of social media that he is transferring to the Beavers from the Cougars. “Excited to be an Oregon State Beaver and for this next chapter in my life,” the lineman wrote on Twitter. “Can’t wait to play in front my hometown again.”

Kearsley had originally considered OSU coming out of high school in the state, and had Arizona State, Arkansas and Washington on his short list as well, before opting to sign with BYU in 2013. Now, he’s back home, which seems to be the impetus for the move.

It’s about getting closer to home,” Brayden’s father, Stuart Kearsley, told The Oregonian earlier this past week. “It’s being able to play in front of family and such. I think he sees it as being maybe a little bit more exciting.”

After sitting out the 2015 season to satisfy NCAA bylaws, Kearsley will have two years of eligibility remaining as well as his redshirt season.

Kearsley was a four-star member of BYU’s 2013 recruiting class and was rated as the No. 3 player at any position in the state of Oregon. He played in 18 games with the Cougars, starting four of those contests.
