LSU losing former four-star DT Mickey Johnson to transfer

Early entry into the NFL draft wasn’t as much of an issue for LSU as it has been in the recent past, but the Tigers’ depth along the defensive line has taken a bit of a hit in another form of personnel shuffling.

Defensive lineman Mickey Johnson (pictured, right) confirmed to the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he has decided to transfer out of the LSU football program. The tackle has no plan to transfer immediately as he will wait until he graduates in August before moving on.

At that point, he’d be eligible to play immediately in 2015 if he leaves for an FBS program. Johnson said he won’t participate in spring practice with the Tigers.

As for a destination, the Louisiana native mentioned Kansas State and USF as possibilities.

Johnson was a four-star member of LSU’s 2011 recruiting class, rated as the No. 17 tackle in the country. After redshirting as a true freshman, Johnson played in seven games the past three seasons.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.
