Army-Rutgers game won’t be played at Yankee Stadium after all

For those fans of Army or Rutgers who were looking forward to taking in a football game at Yankee Stadium this year, you’re going to be disappointed.

Following up a week’s worth of speculation, the service academy announced Thursday morning that the Nov. 21 game with RU won’t be played at the home of the New York Yankees as originally planned. Instead, the game has been moved to Michie Stadium at West Point.

Reportedly, there was an unspecified conflict that led to the game being moved to the home of the Black Knights.

“We are grateful for the tremendous partnership we have with the New York Yankees,” Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a statement. “We discussed it and it makes the most sense to play the game at Michie to allow our fans plenty of time to plan accordingly for this game. ...

“Our fans, cadets, athletes and staff had a great experience at Yankee Stadium last year. We will continue our partnership with the New York Yankees and look forward to our next event.”

Army played UConn in Yankee Stadium in 2014. There had been talk that they would face Notre Dame in the same venue in 2016, the same as they did in 2010, but that game will be played in the Alamodome instead.

Just when the service academy returns to the ballpark remains to be seen.
