Report: Gators lose DL coach to NFL; Longhorns coach to replace him

Florida’s loss has turned into, well, Texas’ loss as well. Reportedly.

According to Thayer Evans of SI.com, UF defensive line coach Terrell Williams has left the Gators to take a position with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Williams had been in Gainesville for just a month as part of Jim McElwain‘s first coaching staff.

The twist to this story comes in the form of Williams’ replacement, which Evans reports will be Chris Rumph. Rumph currently coaches the Longhorns defensive line, and had spent just one season in Austin with Charlie Strong.

McElwain and Rumph have a recent history together, having served on the same Alabama coaching staff a couple of years ago.

The shakeups to McElwain’s staff comes at a time where uncertainty reigns over one of the top members of its 2015 recruiting class. Five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson announced Wednesday that he had committed to the Gators, but as of late Thursday morning had not sent a signed National Letter of Intent to UF.
