Officially poached: Florida confirms hiring of Texas DL coach

Maybe now we’ll have a resolution to the ever-evolving CeCe Jefferson saga/soap opera at some point in the near future?

Following up on reports from Thursday, Florida announced that Chris Rumph has been hired as the Gators’ new defensive line coach. Rumph had spent the 2014 season in the same capacity at Texas.

First-year head coach Jim McElwain and Rumph have a recent history together, having served on the same Alabama coaching staff for one season in 2011.

“Chris and I obviously have some experience working together from our days at Alabama,” said McElwain in a statement. “He joins a group of like thinkers on our staff and is someone who will positively affect our players’ lives – both on and off the field.”

Prior to his three years at Alabama (2011-13), Rumph spent five seasons at Clemson (2006-10).

Rumph will replace Terrell Williams, who left the Gators after a month for an NFL job. It was Williams’ departure -- or the rumors of an impending departure -- that the Jefferson family said triggered the brouhaha involving their five-star son, who had committed to Florida but has yet to send in a signed National Letter of Intent.
