NCAA grants CSU TE Kivon Cartwright a sixth year

Colorado State tight end Kivon Cartwright will get a sixth year of eligibility. The NCAA granted him that opportunity Monday after Cartwright had to undergo surgery on his ankle in October.

Cartwright injured his ankle in the offseason and was only able to play in Colorado State’s season opener against Colorado in 2014. He caught one pass in the game but was soon shut down for the season to receive medical treatment and focus on rehab. Having already started his fifth year of eligibility, the hopes of returning for one more season were put in the hands of the NCAA for a medical exemption for a sixth year of eligibility.

That call finally came today...

Cartwright might have been able to make the jump to the NFL now despite the injury, but he seemed to be focused on returning to Fort Collins.

“I’ve never really thought about that far, as far as draft stock, anything like that,” Cartwright said back in October. “If I have another option to come back to school, finish my master’s degree and be a part of the great things that are going on in this program, I would love to.”

Well, now he gets to do just that.
