Former four-star CB Kalvaraz Bessent leaving Auburn

After one year in which he left much more of a mark off the field than on it, one of the top recruits in Auburn’s Class of 2014 has decided to seek out greener pastures. Or, at least, different ones.

Tuesday, AU announced that Kalvaraz Bessent has decided to take his leave of the Tigers football program and move on to another school. The school stated that Bessent would be pursuing opportunities closer to his home in St. Mary’s, Georgia.

The defensive back took to Twitter to express no hard feelings over the development.

In February of 2014, shortly after signing with AU, Bessent was arrested on a pair of felony drug charges. While the charges were dropped a short time later, Bessent came to The Plains last summer on what head coach Gus Malzahn described as “probationary status.”

Despite an impressive recruiting pedigree, Bessent did not see the field at all in 2014 and took a redshirt season.

A four-star member of AU’s 2014 recruiting class, Bessent was rated as the No. 12 cornerback in the country and the No. 13 player at any position in the state of Georgia. Only two other Tiger defensive signees held a higher rating according to Rivals.com than Bessent.

Before signing with Auburn, Bessent held offers from, among others, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
