UGA assistant doubles up on 2015 raises

It’s been a good year financially for Georgia’s Bryan McClendon.

In January, the coach saw his rate of pay increase from $250,000 to $350,000 after he was given the title of assistant head coach. Earlier this week, UGA confirmed that McClendon would be moving from running backs coach to wide receivers coach in order to make room for new RBs coach Thomas Brown.

That move also included an additional title of passing-game coordinator. Something else included? Another raise.

According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, an open records request revealed that, after the job swap and additional title, McClendon was on the receiving end of a $50,000 raise. Thanks to all of the movement, McClendon’s pay has jumped from $250,000 to $400,000 in less than two months.

Last year, McClendon, about to enter his seventh season on Mark Richt‘s coaching staff, was sixth among the nine Bulldog assistants in pay. This new salary would’ve placed him third among his UGA peers, behind only coordinators Mike Bobo, now the head coach at Colorado State, and Jeremy Pruitt.
