2015 Boise St. signee arrested for bringing gun to school, won’t play for Broncos

This past weekend, Boise State lost a running back who wanted to pursue interests outside of football. A few days later, the Broncos have lost another player at the same position, albeit for different reasons entirely.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that 19-year-old Raymond Sheard was arrested Tuesday morning after bringing an unloaded gun to his Texas high school. “Suspicious behavior” on the part of Sheard led to a search of his backpack, which revealed not only the weapon but non-prescription drugs and marijuana.

Sheard was officially charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and tampering with an ID.

Sheard signed with Boise State this past February. Unfortunately for the player, however, his Broncos career is over before it ever got started.

After rushing for more than 1,500 yards last season, the 6-1, 180-pound Sheard was a two-star member of Boise’s 2015 recruiting class. Scout.com rated him as a three-star prospect who held offers from, among others, Colorado State, Oregon State, Texas State and Tulsa.
