Florida WR Chris Thompson arrested, charged with simple battery

Alright, Jim McElwain. You’ve been on the job in Gainesville for a few months now but are you ready for your tenure to really start?

The new Gators head coach was handed his first arrest earlier this month as wide receiver Chris Thompson was arrested and charged with simple battery, also known as “dating violence.” According to the police report, Thompson got into an argument with a former girlfriend after he received a text from another female and he scratched the woman’s arms and neck while attempting to retrieve his phone. Here’s the Gainesville Sun‘s Robbie Andreu:

The incident happened on April 1. This explains why Thompson has not been at practice the past few days.

The Independent Florida Alligator‘s Richard Johnson retrieved the official police report.
