Pair of Cyclones arrested, including son of head coach Paul Rhoads

Another weekend, another college football player runs afoul of the law. Or, in this case, another two college football players, one of whom has very close ties to his head coach.

According to the Ames Tribune, Iowa State wide receiver Jake Rhoads was arrested late Saturday night and charged with public intoxication. The 20-year-old Rhoads is the son of ISU head coach Paul Rhoads.

Additionally, defensive tackle Terry Ayeni was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge early Sunday morning. It’s unclear if the two arrests are connected as no details have been released.

Neither player is currently listed as an inmate on the Story County (IA) Jail’s website, having been released on twin $300 bonds.

“We are aware of the situations involving our student-athletes,” Rhoads said in a statement. “We are now in the process of gathering more facts and information.”

After transferring in from the JUCO ranks last year, Ayeni missed the 2014 season with a torn ACL. Rhoads is a walk-on who joined his father’s football program in 2013. He’s never played a down for the Cyclones, redshirting as a true freshman in 2013 and working on the scout team in 2014.
