Former Northwestern walk-on hit with weapons charges

Former Northwestern walk-on Xavier Menifield is no longer a member of the Wildcats’ roster, and it seems there may be a reason for that.

The Valencia, Calif., native was charged March 16 with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for having an unloaded rifle in his car, unlawful use of a weapon for having allegedly having metal knuckles in his vehicle, and possession of firearm ammunition without a firearm owners’ ID card, according to court records uncovered by the Chicago Tribune. The ammo was allegedly discovered in his dorm room. The aggravated unlawful use of a weapon charge is a felony.

The car where police discovered the weapons connected with Menifield was parked near Northwestern’s Ryan Field.

Menifield has been released on bond and is due back in court next month.

A Northwestern spokesman told the Tribune Menifield is no longer enrolled at the university.
