Outback Bowl beware! Melbourne Bowl “good to go” in 2016

Watch out Outback Bowl. There could be a bowl game with more genuine Australian flavor to it coming in 2016.

College football does not have a terrific history of playing college football bowl games beyond the borders of the United States (long live the International Bowl in Toronto), but apparently there is enough momentum moving forward to approve a potential bowl game down under. A brand new bowl game to be played in Melbourne between the Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference is reportedly moving forward with planning.

The game would not take place until 2016, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com. It is also still just a hot discussion point right now between bowl organizers and representatives from the Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference.

When first hearing about a potential bowl game in Australia, you might think it would be the perfect sponsorship opportunity for the Outback Bowl, but at this time there is no reason to believe the Outback Bowl will be losing its sponsorship deal with Outback Steakhouse. In fact, Australians are not big fans of Outback Steakhouse anyway, so that may not be as ideal a pairing as you might think.
