Report: Irish to block Golson from 2015 opponents, some B1G teams

We don’t know yet to where Everett Golson will transfer, but we do have an idea of where he won’t. Sort of.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Bruce Feldman of FOXSports.com reported overnight that Notre Dame will restrict its now-former quarterback from transferring to any opponent on its 2015 schedule. That means that Texas, which had been rumored as a potential destination, will not be in play for Golson.

The other 11 teams on ND’s 2015 slate include Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Navy, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Temple, UMass, USC, Virginia and Wake Forest. None of those teams had been rumored as possible transfer locales.

Additionally, Feldman reported, “some Big Ten programs” would be blocked as well. No specific teams from that conference were mentioned in the report, although there’s been speculation that Michigan and Wisconsin may be possibilities for Golson.

Shortly after Golson’s transfer decision was confirmed last week, it was reported that the two front-runners for the Myrtle Beach native’s final season of college football were South Carolina and Georgia. Golson was reportedly expected to visit the former Monday and the latter Tuesday, although Feldman labeled the news of a visit to the Gamecocks as “inaccurate.”

If Golson were to attempt to transfer to an SEC school, he would need a waiver from the conference due to his 2013 suspension for academic misconduct.
