Les Miles’ son, Manny, is supposedly a fairly decent, albeit injury-plagued college football prospect at the quarterback position. Miles, a former Michigan football player, admitted last summer that he’d like to see his son follow in his Ann Arbor footsteps. He also allowed that he’d like to see his son in Baton Rouge, to which Manny, when asked under what circumstances he’d go to LSU, replied “none.”
Fast-forward nearly a year, and the younger Miles has made a collegiate choice, and it doesn’t involve either the Wolverines or the Tigers.
In an interview with the Baton Rouge Advocate, Manny Miles confirmed that he will play his college football at North Carolina. Miles’ son stated that he will enter the Tar Heels football program as a preferred walk-on and will be on the UNC roster for the 2015 season.
The son said that his decision came after visiting the Chapel Hill campus earlier this month -- and after some sage advice from dear ol’ dad.
“My mom and I went up there to visit a couple of weeks ago, and I just loved everything about it,” Miles said of the UNC campus. “When I got home, my dad asked me to sleep on it. He wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a decision because I’d just visited there. I slept on it for about two weeks, and I knew that was still where I wanted to go.”
There’s also a chance Miles could be a two-sport player at UNC as he was an all-state baseball player.
Miles didn’t receive any stars as a 2015 recruit from Rivals.com, although his health may have played at least a partial role in that. From the Advocate:Injuries have plagued Miles over the past two seasons. ... A broken hand suffered in a 2013 football title-game loss to John Curtis limited his junior baseball season.
An ankle injury forced Miles to miss several football games during his senior season. The 6-foot, 180-pound Miles still garnered All-Metro football honors while helping the Cubs claim the Division II select state title. He completed 126 of 179 passes for 1,952 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Interestingly, in a separate interview with the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the younger Miles acknowledged that Michigan was a strong consideration in his mind... until Jim Harbaugh was hired as UM’s new head coach.
“I was really thinking about Michigan,” he said. “But when they got a new coaching staff, conversation stopped and never picked back up.”
