Early signing period discussion put on table for another year

If you wanted to see your favorite college football team start signing recruits as early as November or December, you are out of luck for now. The Collegiate Commissioners Association has opted to table the discussion on an early signing period until next year.

MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said there was a consensus of support for the early signing period, but advised it should be given more time for the oversight committee to review before rushing into any potentially game-changing adjustments to the recruiting calendar. So expect this topic to be discussed (and debated) for the next year while the pieces continue to come together. At this point in time, it would appear the most likely start date for an early signing period might be late 2016, although whether it would be implemented in the same calendar year it is potentially adopted remains to be seen.

Putting the idea on the to-do list for 2016 is probably a wise decision. There is a wide range of opinions around the country regarding how to best implement an early-signing period, let alone whether it should be added at all. Without a clear consensus one way or the other on the subject, allowing for more time to let the idea marinate and be openly discussed before meeting again allows for the best opportunity to figure out what works and what will not.One recruiting analysts,One recruiting analysts, Mike Farrell of Rivals, chimed in this morning on the news;

This is crazy, we wait one more year for something needed since around 2007 https://t.co/CYYDME6I3k
