Texas announces it will sell beer and wine at Longhorn football games

It had the support of the university president, and now it is official. Texas has announced it will begin selling beer at home football games this season.

The push to sell beer at football games has been a topic for discussion for years now, but it has been pushed aside by the leadership in place in Austin. With a change in leadership has come a new open mind on the benefits of beer sales at football games. Texas began selling beer at other athletic events within the last year but football had to wait its turn while the school evaluated the process in place for beer sales. With the ability to sell beer, Texas can look forward to some extra revenue to go on top of its Big 12 conference revenue share and whatever is coming in through The Longhorn Network.

Texas will join West Virginia and Iowa State as Big 12 schools making beer available to those attending football games this fall. West Virginia was among the first schools to experiment with selling beer at athletic events, and the results in recent years have led others to explore the possibility of selling beer on their campuses. Texas is not the first school in the state to sell beer though. North Texas, Houston and SMU each beat the Longhorns to the idea.
