Condition of Mizzou’s Harold Brantley upgraded from serious to good

After one tragedy on Father’s Day, there’s some very good news regarding another situation that held the potential for additional tragedy.

Very early Sunday morning, Missouri’s Harold Brantley sustained serious and significant injuries in a one-car accident that also injured a Mizzou women’s basketball player. While Brantley remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit at a Columbia hospital, his medical condition, multiple media outlets are reporting, has been upgraded from serious to good. He’s expected to be moved from the ICU Tuesday.

Brantley sustained a broken tibia, knee ligament damage and multiple fractured ribs in the rollover wreck, while his passenger suffered only minor injuries. Surgery has already been performed on his broken leg, while knee surgery will take place at some pointy in the next 3-4 weeks.

Whether Brantley will be able to take the field for the Tigers this season remains to be seen.

It’s too soon to put a timetable on a planned return to football activities, so we’re going to leave that open and focus all attention on helping Harold recover and get back to full health first,” the school wrote to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in a statement. “When that information becomes known, we’ll certainly share it with everyone.”

Last season, Brantley started 10 of the 14 games in which he played.
