Beavers officially announce addition of ex-USU QB Darell Garretson

A little over a month after it was first reported, Darell Garretson‘s move to a Pac-12 school has been made officially official.

Oregon State announced Monday that Garretson has transferred into first-year head coach Gary Andersen‘s football program. The quarterback will be a walk-on initially at OSU, and is enrolled in classes for the summer term at the university.

Because of NCAA bylaws, Garretson will not be eligible to play in 2015. Beginning in 2016, he would then have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

After starting seven games as a freshman in 2013, Garretson played in just five games in 2014 before suffering a season-ending wrist injury. It was announced in late March that he was transferring out of USU.

Part of the draw for Garretson to the Beavers is that his former Aggies offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Kevin McGivens, is now the quarterbacks coach at OSU. Additionally, Andersen, prior to moving on to Wisconsin in late December of 2012, was USU’s head coach and recruited Garretson, who signed with the Aggies two months after Andersen left for Madison.
