UCLA transfer QB Asiantii Woulard seeking immediate USF eligibility

When Asiantii Woulard announced late last month that he would be transferring into the USF football program from UCLA, it was assumed that the quarterback would be forced to sit out the 2015 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. While that assumption may ultimately be proven correct, it’s not yet a certainty.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Woulard is pursing a waiver from the NCAA that would allow him to become eligible to compete immediately in 2015. The Times writes that "[i]t is believed Woulard, who starred at Winter Park [Fla.] High [School], is pursuing a waiver based on family reasons.” Just what those family reasons are, whether they be health-related or otherwise, was not divulged.

The paper does, though, acknowledge that the odds for a successful appeal for a waiver are long. Should the appeal be denied, Woulard would have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016.

A four-star member of UCLA’s 2013 recruiting class, Woulard was rated as the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country; the No. 23 player at any position in the state of Florida; and the No. 141 player overall according to Rivals.com. During his first and only two years with the Bruins, Woulard didn’t see any game action.
