Favorite to start at center for Arizona likely out for all of 2015

The favorite to anchor the center of Arizona’s offensive line this season likely won’t see the field at all, Rich Rodriguez acknowledged Saturday.

Carter Wood is dealing with a chronic foot injury that’s gotten worse since the start of summer camp earlier this month. Because of that, Rodriguez said, it’s doubtful the lineman will play at all in 2015.

“It doesn’t look like Carter is going to be able to play at all,” the head coach said. “Carter, I don’t know if he can play at all this season. I feel bad for him. Right now, it doesn’t look good.”

Wood had been projected to be the Wildcats’ starting center this season after playing in five games last season, starting one of those contests.

With Wood sidelined, the Arizona Daily Star writes, “Cayman Bundage, the UA’s starting left guard the past two seasons, has moved over to center. Zach Hemmila, who was also competing for the center spot, moved to left guard.” That’s still a fluid situation, though, as Rodriguez is uncertain how the center of the line will shake out once the season starts.
