After leaving Gators, Adam Lane reportedly headed to E. Kentucky

When Florida announced Sunday that Adam Lane had decided to transfer from the Gators, the stated reason was that the running back “has some family issues that he is dealing with and wants to be closer to home” in Winter Haven Fla. Instead of getting closer to home, though, he’s moving further away. Much, much further away.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, the New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Lane plans to join the Eastern Kentucky football program. The Times-Picayune further added that Lane has been texting his former teammates that the Colonels are his next destination.

EKU is located in Richmond, Ky., which is roughly 850 miles from Lane’s hometown of Winter Haven, Fla. Gainesville was around 130 miles away.

Lane, the father of two children, was a three-star member of UF’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 29 back in the country coming out of high school in Winter Haven, Fla. Entering Florida’s Birmingham Bowl appearance this past season armed with 72 career rushing yards, Lane ripped off 109 yards and scored his first career touchdown in earning MVP honors in the win over East Carolina.

Lane was also known for his bowel performance in the postseason and an off-field incident last month well.

Because the Colonels play at the FCS level, Lane will be eligible to play immediately in 2015. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
