Notre Dame going (all) green for Fenway Park game

Perhaps it’s a part of an overall strategy to blend in with the famed Green Monster?

Regardless, Notre Dame and Under Armour Thursday unveiled new alternate uniforms that the Irish will wear in their Shamrock series game this season against Boston College. The uniforms for the Fenway Park game will be all green, with a hint of blue and splash of gold. There are also “references in the design to Notre Dame’s past, such as the 11 national championships.”

The new duds won’t be everyone’s cup of tea -- one ND-centric website acknowledges that "[t]raditionalist Notre Dame fans are almost certainly going to be opposed to them as they are most of the Shamrock Series unis -- but they are certainly a favorite of the Irish football players who will be donning them.

And just what caused all of that ruckus?

The Nov. 21 game will mark the first time the Irish has worn green jerseys since the 2010 Shamrock Series game against Army. A word of warning, though, about somewhat recent history with a similar fashion statement:

Notre Dame’s history wearing green against Boston College hasn’t been positive. In 2002 the undefeated Fighting Irish, fresh off a win over Florida State, broke out kelly green jerseys and were upset by a rather average Boston College team. Notre Dame caught a case of fumblitis in their new jerseys that fateful afternoon and Tyrone Willingham’s inaugural season suffered it’s first loss.
