Ex-Boise State DE transferring to TCU

A former Boise State defensive end who had transferred to the Baylor Bears made headlines for all of the wrong reasons recently, with the latter football program being slammed nationally for its decision and questions being raised about the university’s and the team’s handling of the situation. As it turns out, another who played the same position at the same Mountain West school has transferred into another Big 12 program as well.

In a missive posted to his personal Twitter account late this past week, Mat Boesen announced that he will transfer to TCO and continue his collegiate playing career with the Horned Frogs. Boesen, who visited the campus earlier this offseason, stated that "[e]verything at TCU just clicked and overall it was the best fit for me.”

While the program has yet to announce Boesen’s addition to the roster, photos contained in his tweet show the player posing with head coach Gary Patterson and posing in various TCU apparel.

Boesen was a three-star member of the Broncos’ 2013 recruiting class who took a redshirt as a true freshman. In July of last year, the defensive end was charged with inattentive or careless driving and resisting or obstructing officers. A month later, he was dismissed by then-head coach Chris Petersen for violating unspecified team rules.

Following his dismissal, Boesen spent the 2014 season at a California junior college. In addition to TCU, Missouri, Oregon and, ironically, Baylor were in pursuit of a three-star player rated as one of the top JUCO weakside ends in that class.
