K-State band director swears that wasn’t what you thought it was

Here’s beyond a doubt the best story of the weekend that did occurred on a football field but did not involve football.

For its first halftime performance of the season, Kansas State decided to throw some shade on its Sunflower State rivals from Lawrence on Saturday night. The idea was to have Star Trek’s Starship Enterprise attacking a Kansas Jayhawk. That, however, was not how it played out in real life.

After sending social media ablaze (mostly in celebration), Kansas State band director Frank Tracz issued a statement apologizing for his group’s lack of, uh, discipline:

K-State president Kirk Schulz also weighed in:

I am sorry if anyone was offended by the performance at half-time. https://t.co/5589bLIJRs

I asked a Kansas athletics official if they wished to respond to the performance by the K-State band. They do not wish to.

I, for one, can’t wait to see what Kansas has in store for their Nov. 28 meeting with the Wildcats.
