No. 23 Tennessee will enter one of Week 2’s marquee non-conference matchups with a significantly depleted defensive line.
On his SEC teleconference call Wednesday, Butch Jones announced that Danny O’Brien has been suspended for Saturday’s game against No. 19 Oklahoma. Furthermore, the UT head coach left the suspension open-ended, meaning the defensive tackle could miss more than one game. After OU, UT hosts Western Carolina before opening SEC play on the road against Florida Sept. 26.
Officially, O’Brien’s suspension is the result of an unspecified violation of team policies.
O’Brien started 12 of 13 games for the Vols last season. He started the season-opening win against Bowling Green as well.
