The NCAA cloud hanging over the head of Ole Miss’ top offensive lineman will linger for at least another week.
Head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed to ESPN.com that the program will hold Laremy Tunsil out of this afternoon’s game against Fresno State. The talented offensive tackle was also held out of the opener against UT-Martin.
The reason for the caution is that, following an altercation between the player and his stepfather, the latter accused the former of an improper relationship with a sports agent. While it’s permissible for college players to talk to agents, it’s against NCAA bylaws for the player to accept anything of value from the agent.
The NCAA is in the process of investigating the situation, with Ole Miss holding out Tunsil as a “precautionary measure.”
Tunsil has been projected as a Top 10 pick in the next NFL draft. Following the 2014 season, the Associated Press named him a first-team All-American.
