K-State takes another hit at QB position

When it rains it pours, especially when it comes to Kansas State and its quarterback position.

Earlier this month, starter Jesse Ertz sustained a knee injury that will likely keep him out for the remainder of the 2015 season. Joe Hubener replaced Ertz in the starting lineup, with Alex Delton, a true freshman, assuming the backup role.

Unfortunately, it appears the Wildcats will have to replace their new backup as well. In the Week 2 win over UT-San Antonio, Delton sustained a meniscus injury in his right knee, the Kansas City Star, citing three sources, is reporting.

Delton suffered the injury late in the game after he had replaced Hubener because of K-State’s large lead. The school has yet to address Delton’s status moving forward, although it sounds like an injury that could sideline him for multiple games. As it stands now, Delton will be unavailable for Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech.

A three-star member of KSU’s 2015 recruiting class, Delton was an early enrollee who participated in spring practice earlier this year. While he hadn’t attempted a pass, he did rush for 18 yards on four carries the first two games.

With Delton sidelined for the foreseeable future, the No. 2 job behind Hubener belongs to JUCO transfer Jonathan Banks.
