Boston College’s loss to Florida State Friday night proved to be costly to the Eagles on more than just the scoreboard.
Pete Thamel of SI.com first reported that Darius Wade suffered a broken ankle in last night’s loss. ESPN.com‘s Brett McMurphy subsequently confirmed the report even as the program has yet to officially update the quarterback’s status moving forward.
Following the game, head coach Steve Addazio acknowledged that the injury “didn’t look good.”
As a result of the injury, Wade is expected to miss the remainder of the 2015 season. As it stands now, Wade will undergo surgery this weekend to repair the damage and will be sidelined for up to three months. Such a timeframe could allow him to return for a bowl game, but sitting out the remainder of the season would also allow him to claim a medical hardship waiver and get his year of eligibility back.
Jeff Smith will likely take over as BC’s starter, backed up by Troy Flutie, the nephew of Eagles great Doug Flutie.
