Boise State QB Ryan Finley pleads guilty to two misdemeanors

Boise State quarterback Ryan Finley pleaded guilty to two charges stemming from an April arrest. Finley was charged with underage possession of alcohol and resisting or obstructing officers, both of which he plead guilty to Monday. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Finley was with a group of students on a Friday night in late April when police responded to a noise complaint near campus. Police happened upon a car, where most of its occupants climbed back in after seeing the officers - all except Finley. Finley gave chase, and was eventually apprehended and found with glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol.

He was sentenced to three months of probation and $790 in fines. He has already completed 40 hours of community service.

Head coach Bryan Harsin said in July Finley’s punishment would not extend beyond internal discipline. “I know the story,” Harsin told the Idaho Statesman. “That’s the one thing about my position – you’ve got to make difficult decisions based off the information you’ve got, based on the person, the player, and how you feel about it. Is it perfect either way? No, it’s not. And we’ve gone the other way, but I feel like what I’ve asked and what he’s done, he’s done it.”

Finley, a sophomore, was named the Broncos’ opening-day starter but is now out eight weeks after injuring his right ankle against Idaho State.
