Missouri has suspended quarterback Maty Mauk and offensive lineman Malik Cuellar for Saturday’s date with South Carolina. The incredibly vague “violation of team policy” was the stated reason.

As the tweet from St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Dave Matter alludes to above, the pair is suspended for at least the South Carolina game, and could grow beyond that. The Tigers host No. 25 Florida and visit No. 8 Georgia in the weeks following this one; all three games are crucial contests in Missouri’s already tenuous bid to defend its back-to-back SEC championships.
Drew Lock is expected to start Saturday for the Tigers. A freshman, Lock has completed 15-of-25 passes for 225 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Mauk has connected on 57-of-110 throws for 654 yards with six scores and four picks to date. He is the SEC’s 13th-rated passer among all players with enough qualifying attempts.
Cuellar, a junior, was listed as Missouri’s second-team left tackle for the club’s 21-13 loss to Kentucky last Saturday.
