‘Personal reasons’ again keep USC’s JuJu Smith-Schuster away from practice

Whether or not it amounts to anything on down the road remains to be seen, but there is a potentially impactful development out on the West Coast involving one of the top wide receivers in college football.

Tuesday, JuJu Smith-Schuster did not participate in practice because of what head coach Steve Sarkisian described as “personal reasons.” A day later, Smith-Schuster was MIA again for the same reason.

The good news is that the Trojans are on a bye this weekend, and don’t practice again until Saturday. Whether Smith-Schuster will be available for that session, or next Thursday’s game against Washington, remains unknown.

Smith’s 27 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns easily pace the Trojans. He’s sixth nationally in receiving yards per game at 134.3 and 18th in receptions per game at 6.8, while his six receiving scores are tied for third.

Tuesday, he was added to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation’s top receiver.
