Reports: Flu may sideline Gator starting QB Will Grier for game vs. Rebels

Wednesday, Florida confirmed that Will Grier would make his fourth consecutive start at quarterback in the Week 5 game against Ole Miss. Two days later, that status is in doubt. Maybe.

Multiple media outlets are reporting Friday evening that Grier is ill battling the flu and may not be available Saturday vs. the Rebels. A dozen or so Gators missed practice this week because of the flu, but, the Associated Press reported, head coach Jim McElwain thought the bug had run its course.

As it stands now, Grier is a game-time decision.

If the player himself has any say, though, there will be no decision at all to make.

In his three previous starts, Grier has completed 46-of-81 passes (56.8 percent) for 559 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s added 71 yards and a touchdown, on 23 carries, on the ground. Most importantly, the Gators are 3-0 in his starts.

If Grier is unable to go, the job would fall to Treon Harris to help knock off the No. 3 Rebels. Harris started the season opener before giving way to Grier the last month.
