It makes so much sense now, all of it. Of course Texas would be off to its worst start since 1956 once it can no longer harness the telekinetic power of its iconic mascot.
Texas announced Wednesday Bevo XIV will miss Saturday’s Texas-OU bout with what the university is calling a “life-threatening” illness. The 2,100-pound steer is currently under the care of his veterinarians, the school noted.
Bevo XIV will not be attending this weekend's OU game due to a life-threatening condition. He has been Texas' mascot since 2004.

“Bevo is a fighter, a symbol of strength and who fans across the world care deeply about,” Silver Spurs Alumni Association executive director Ricky Brennes said in a statement. “We are carefully monitoring Bevo’s condition at this time and will update the public as we find out more about his condition.”
Bevo XIV has been under the school’s employ since 2004, sporting a 106-41 record with two national championship appearances.
Bevo also missed Texas’s 38-3 loss to Notre Dame due to Notre Dame Stadium’s policy banning live animal mascots.
Considering the fact above and the current state of the Texas football program, perhaps the bovine spirit symbol is the smartest living being in burnt orange. Maybe Bevo can sense what lies ahead this weekend and has simply decided ahead of time to call in sick.
