Report: Drew Ott tears ACL in Iowa’s win over Illini

Iowa’s win that kept the Hawkeyes perfect on the season may have come at a steep cost.

While there has been nothing official from the school, Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette tweeted out that senior Drew Ott sustained a torn ACL in Saturday’s 29-20 win over Illinois. Ott suffered the non-contact injury in the third quarter as part of the punt-block team and, after being taken off the field and evaluated, spent the remainder of the contest on crutches.

If the report is accurate, not only would Ott’s 2015 season be over but so would his collegiate career.

Ott is one of the top defensive ends ion the Big Ten, entering today’s contest with four sacks. He added another against the Illini to finish his truncated season with five.

Ott had started 31 of the last 32 games for the Hawkeyes, including a string of 19 straight over the past two seasons. Following the 2014 season, he was named second-team All-Big Ten.
