Found not guilty of sexual assault, Kendall Sanders would ‘love to go back to’ ‘Horns

Dismissed by Charlie Strong at Texas, Kendall Sanders is hoping today’s developments could lead to another shot with the Longhorns.

Following a four-day trial, a Travis County jury returned a not guilty verdict against Sanders on a charge of sexual assault. An initial vote of the jury, Ryan Autullo of the Austin American-Statesman tweeted, had seven for not guilty and five others either guilty or uncertain. This morning, those five all voted not guilty along with the initial seven.

In July of 2014, Sanders, along with former UT teammate Montrel Meander, were charged with the felony sexual assault of a former student in a dorm room. Meander is still awaiting trial on his charge, although there’s the possibility that the district attorney, in consultation with the alleged victim, could decide to drop the case.

Both Sanders and Meander were initially suspended by Strong following their arrest on felony sexual assault charges, with it being confirmed in early August that each had been released from their scholarships.

Given the outcome of the case, Sanders, who said he doesn’t blame Strong for dismissing him, would welcome a return to the Longhorns. Whether that opportunity would be afforded him remains to be seen.

While his former team may or may not have an interest, another Texas school with a familiar face on staff has already reached out.
