Fournette charges No. 6 LSU to halftime lead over No. 8 Florida

Leonard Fournette is doing Leonard Fournette things, both supposedly limited quarterbacks are making big plays in the passing game, and No. 6 LSU holds a 28-14 lead over No. 8 Florida at the break in Baton Rouge.

After LSU punt returner Tre’Davious White put the ball on the Les Miles buffet line that is the Tiger Stadium turf at his own 13, Florida punched in an early touchdown on a five-yard Treon Harris run at the 10:13 mark of the first quarter.

That score held through the first quarter, but LSU (and, specifically, Fournette) dominated the second frame. Fournette posted touchdown runs from two and six yards out, sandwiching a nine-yard strike from Brandon Harris to Malachi Dupree, pushing the Bayou Bengals from a 7-0 deficit to a 21-7 lead with 2:25 before the half.

Harris responded, though, moving the Gators 80 yards in four plays and 44 seconds, highlighted by a 12-yard run, a 48-yard strike to Antonio Calloway and a 19-yard scoring toss to Jake McGee. For the half, Harris, playing for the suspended Will Grier, hit 9-of-11 throws for 115 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Gators on the ground with 19 yards on eight carries.

Not content to take a 21-14 lead into the locker room, LSU moved 75 yards in five plays to push the lead back to 14. Fittingly, the drive used the same three players that created the Tigers’ first three touchdowns. Fournette rushed for gains of five and 14 and a loss of three, and Harris nailed Dupree for a five-yard connection and a 50-yard scoring bomb to push the score to 28-14 with 15 seconds remaining.

Fournette rushed 15 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns, Harris hit 10-of-12 throws for 189 yards and two touchdowns, and Dupre totaled four grabs for 115 yards and those two scores.

LSU will receive to open the second half.
