The tumultuous life of a formerly highly-touted recruit has met a tragic end.
Al.com confirmed with the Mississippi Highway Patrol that Altee Tenpenny died in a one-car accident Tuesday evening. The wreck began with Tenpenny colliding with a traffic sign and ended with his vehicle hitting a utility pole, ejecting him from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead a short time later at a Greenville, Miss., hospital.
The wreck happened as Tenpenny was headed back to his home in Arkansas after being dismissed by Nicholls State following an arrest on weapons charges. That was the third football program from which Tenpenny had been dismissed in the last nine months.
Tenpenny “parted ways” with Alabama this past January, ultimately moving on to UNLV four months later. He was dismissed by the Rebels in early August for violating unspecified team rules, and ended up at FCS Nicholls State later that month.
Tenpenny was a four-star member of the Tide’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 8 back in the country; the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Arkansas; and the No. 53 player overall by Rivals.com. In two seasons with the Tide, Tenpenny totaled 218 yards on 48 carries.
