The Ohio State Buckeyes remain the clear number one in college football according to the latest coaches poll, released Sunday. The Buckeyes received 49 first-place votes to stay comfortably ahead of No. 2 Baylor and No. 3 TCU. Ohio State’s division rivals from East Lansing, Michigan State, slipped down to fifth in the coaches poll, with rising SEC contender LSU swapping spots with the Spartans. Clemson stayed firm at No,. 6 in the coaches poll and picked up a first-place vote after a dominating win at Miami.
The bottom half of the top 10 saw some movement following this weekend’s developments. No. 14 Utah fell seven spots after losing at USC. No. 15 Florida State fell six spots after being shocked by Georgia Tech on the final play of the game. With Utah and Florida State falling out of the top 10, room was left open for No. 8 Stanford and No. 10 Oklahoma State to slide into the top 10. No. 7 Alabama and No. 9 Notre Dame each moved up one spot as well.
This week’s coaches poll welcomes No. 24 Pittsburgh, a week after the Panthers broke into the AP top 25. No. 25 UCLA returns to the coaches poll after climbing as high as No. 10 earlier in the year. California dropped out of the poll after suffering a second straight loss in Pac-12 play. Texas A&M also dropped out this week after losing to Ole Miss.
