Jordan Canzeri, unbeaten Iowa’s leading rusher, out for Week 9

Even a bye week wasn’t enough to get the biggest cog in Iowa’s offense back on the field.

Jordan Canzeri sustained an ankle injury in the Oct. 17 win over Northwestern that pushed the Hawkeyes to 7-0. Even with last weekend off, Canzeri is highly unlikely to play this weekend as UI returns to the field against Maryland.

The good news, though, is that it doesn’t appear the injury is going to be a long-term issue for the productive running back.

“He has an ankle injury and that’s not good for a back. They’re unpredictable,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said. “He’s making good progress. He looked better two days after the injury than we anticipated. That’s good news. He’s feeling better by the day but when he’ll be ready, I’m not sure yet.”

Canzeri’s 698 yards rushing are more than double of No. 2 on the team, while he’s scored exactly half (nine) of the Hawkeyes’ 18 rushing touchdowns. He’s also tied for second on the team with 17 receptions out of the backfield.
